  1. WOW! Posted for nearly 4 months with NO comments? I cant believe it! I'm a game inventor myself with 3 kids (5-11). I bought Hero Kids today along with the Lost Village adventure. Played the Rat Encounter with them tonight and they LOVED it! I especially appreciated the simple system that lends you paying more attention to the story and the players than to it and the pro-style artwork that really helps the kids feel like its a game FOR THEM. 5 Stars, Justin, from father to father, for staging this excellent tool for bringing families together and for keeping it affordable!

    1. Hi Vern, thanks for first comment here; feel free to drop me a +1 here or a (5-star) rating over on DriveThruRPG!
And thanks for playing Hero Kids, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

  2. Okay...here's a comment! :)

Just bought the game. Went for the print edition -- I like to have my books LOL

My nine-year old twins are extremely excited for me to run a game for them. Will post after our first adventure.

    Cheers
    Tom

  3. How are the adventures sorted in this list? Is there a suggested playing order for the available adventures so far?

    1. These are alphabetical.

There's not really a play order as such, but Basement O Rats is generally the first adventure kids tackle. The number of encounters gives you an idea of the duration of the adventures.

After Basement O Rats, you can do Curse of the Shadow Walkers, Ghost Pirates, Tomb of the Lost King, and then Mines of Martek.

Maze of the Minotaur can be played easier or harder, so it can be tackled next, then finally The Lost Village (which is quite long).

    2. Thanks. Ran Curse of the Shadow Walkers today (having previously played through Basement O Rats and Escape from the Ghost Pirates). Haven't looked into either Tomb, Mines or Village yet, but my nephew requested that they adventure in the town's sewers next to fight green slime (an influence of TSR's Dungeon! boardgame where he had a tough time fighting them). So Rivenshore will "retroactively" get upgraded with an underground culvert system infested with slimes for tomorrow's game.

  4. Awesome game, I've just finished my first games with the kids and the love it! Really well made! Great work. I would be worth it to translate it in french.

  5. Kids and me are loving it so far (we did the first two stories). However, in "Escape from the Ghost Pirates (Normal)" there's only 2 monsters to print that can be used on the map. Only one captain pirate and one skeleton captain party are added on the last page. Could you be so kind to update the pdf with the numerous archers, skeletons and pirates please. Thank you!

  6. Ok, ignore the previous comment. The solutions was a tad hidden in the description. Think the pdf might benefit from making this a tad clearer (I can imagine that you are quite aware of what content can be found throughout all the pdfs, but for a beginner like me who bought the bundle, it's a bit of a quest to find everything ;) ) Cheers,

  7. We played it once back in 2016 but then life got crazy with more kids. Now that the two oldest (4 and 7) are able to play. Looking forward to setting up a recurring Sunday meetup at a friends house with his two oldest.

  8. Thank you for Hero Kids, my 7 year old Daughter loves it (and Wife has been playing as well) - after playing 5 adventures she started writing her own, and ran one game (with some help) for myself and my wife to play, with many ideas for more.

  9. Hi Justin, I just discovered this game and my kids love it. I have already bought all the adventures translated into Spanish. Please I strongly ask you to translate all of them !!! It would be beautiful. Greetings. Javi.

  10. My kids and I have been playing and they have absolutely loved it! We just finished the Ghost Pirates adventure and my 9 year old daughter was so ingenious she took the bandannas off of the pirates in the first encounter, put a bit of gunpowder in it from the barrels next to the cannons, wrapped it up, shoved it into the locks to the cells and lit it with the flame from a lamp. They didn't need to get the keys at all! My younger two aren't ready for a full-fledged RPG yet, but my older one probably is!

  11. I just want to say: THANK YOU! This helps so much keeping the lock down blues in check! We have spend some quality time after dinner to go through the rules, and we're going to embark on our first adventure tomorrow. Never stop making adventures please!

  12. Having lots of fun with this during the shutdown. I think I've bought all of the PDF bundles at this point (I think there are like 10 adventures?) My 6 year old son and our 7 year old neighbor play. I have a giant markerboard set up and the neighbor stays in his yard and my son helps me to erase the board. We've played Basement of Rats, Fire in Rivenshore, and Wizards Tower. I just found the other adventures (in a bundle for $15 yes!) and grabbed those as well. I spend time after each adventure talking through different ways they could have solved the problems and I try to keep track of what items they used and picked up and carry it into the next adventure. This has been great and I hope that all of these recent comments inspire you to create some new adventures! Thanks from Cincinnati OHIO

  13. I bought the complete bundle and they have really been a lifesaver to play with my 5 and 7 year old during the shutdown. My 5 year old won't sit still for more then 10 minutes gets totally enraptured in these adventures and wants to play again immediately after we are finished with one. Thank you for creating these.

  14. Another positive review! After almost 30 years of not playing RPGs (since my teens - Cthulhu & Chill) I thought now would be the time to start again with my 9 and 6 yr old kids - Something good to do during the lockdown. First I looked at the D&D starter set, but wasn't sure, so I started Googling and eventually took a punt on Hero Kids. I bought the basic PDF with the first ratty adventure and te kids loved it, I'm impressed, so I went back and bought the bundle. Worth every penny, I'm sure. It didn't take long to prepare before the first game.

  15. Hi! I am REALLY happy to have bought Hero Kids for my 8-year-old; and hope soon my 4-year-old will join us too. Our native language is Spanish, I am also an English-to-Spanish translator and would love to offer my translation services. Thanks again for such a wonderful game!

  16. Hi there, I have been playing this with my 8 year old and 5 year old, who really love the adventures. They do really allow them to practice using their imagination to build characters and tell stories, and it is a fun time together. One constructive comment: in the adventures we have played (all the normal difficulty ones so far) there are not a lot of interesting female NPCs. The sheriff in our adventures is a woman, but I have to consciously switch the gender as I read, or even catch and avoid references to the sheriff's "men" or the "watchmen" (my daughter will call me out if I forget). Similarly, the wizard and Odin-Father are both men, as are all the baddies. So far the only women are generally either unimportant or victims. There might be some stronger women NPCs in the harder adventures we are moving on to, but I wanted to flag this as a source of mild frustration so far, especially given in D&D by comparison, there always seem to be strong female NPCs.

  17. Hello,
While I am a little familiar with RPGs through video games from my youth, I have never played a table top RPG and the idea of being a DM was a little daunting.
I nonetheless bought the pack after it was recommended by a knowledgeable friend. It’s the French version as I am French to play with my 5 yo boy (and hopefully with the second boy once he’s old enough). My son absolutely loved it and so did I. The translation is great because it keeps a good but reachable language level. We played Basement o Rats twice (second time including my wife) and we all had an absolute blast.
Thank you very much for giving us this opportunity and looking forward to discovering the remaining adventures and characters in the weeks/months to come.
I could not find a way to rate the purchase on DriveThruRPG but I’ll have a look again because this product is definitely worth top marks.
    Guillaume

  18. Hello Justin!
Do you have any new adventures planned for the future?
We are working through playing every adventure both core and creators guild and always looking for more!

  19. My husband and I play with our two children and they were over the moon with Hero Kids. My son in particular decided to create his own dungeon and make his own session. It's been absolutely wonderful. Thank you so much for this system. I intend to make a "Candy Kingdom" campaign for them with one-off sessions to mold the world and such.

  20. I just found these adventures ! They are great for my teens! They are short well written and a ton of fun! Great job !!! Basement o' rats was a huge hit with my table !

  21. I've got to say I'm a bit confused about the proposed difficulties and suggested order of play. I purchased the entire available bundle of PDFs, as well as a hard copy of the Core rulebook and Adventure Compendium.
In the adventure compendium, "Tomb of the Lost King" is described as "Hard" difficulty, but you have it here in this list as "Easy", and the second adventure to run after the Basement o Rats intro. Have any clarification or updates?

    1. Hi Samwell, sounds like you have the earlier version of the Adventure Compendium, before the revision to the adventure difficulties. Is your Adventure Compendium color or b&w? Check the PDF of the adventure for updates.
